Police says RCMP Constable Heidi Stevenson was killed in the Portapique shooting this morning. She was a 23-year veteran of the force and mother of two. Another officer is receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
Nova Scotia RCMP say police responded to a firearms call last night. When they arrived at the home in Portapique, they found multiple casualties inside and outside the house. The suspect was located this morning. Police confirm he has died.
RCMP say more than 10 people were killed in the N.S. shooting rampage. They don't know the exact number, because there were multiple locations involved and the investigation is ongoing. They believe the suspect acted alone, travelling across the northern part of the province.
Police say that at one point in the evening, the suspect was wearing at least a partial police uniform and driving a vehicle that had 'been made to look like an RCMP cruiser.'
Police say the Nova Scotia crimes appear to have been, at least in part, 'very random in nature.' Some victims did not appear to have any relationship with the shooter.

RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki says the Nova Scotia shooting rampage is not being treated as a terror investigation at this time, although the motive is not at all clear.
The RCMP commissioner says the Nova Scotia homicides happened at 'multiple scenes spreading over at least 50 kilometres.' She adds: 'I would say I believe at the beginning there was an initial motivation. And then I think it turned to randomness.'
RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki now says 17 people dead, including the gunman, in weekend rampage in Nova Scotia.
