if you look at its expression in alt-right and alt-centrist discourse, it's always closely intertwined w/ nativist and nationalist sentiments: the communist is cast as the foreign evil "Other" whereas the anti-communist is rooted in a Western tradition of Reason and Civilization
in its classical form this anti-communism was the chief motivating force and unifying mythology and resentment underlying nazi ideology, closely intertwined with anti-semitism: "Kulturbolschewismus", "jewish bolshevism", and, more recently, "cultural marxism" were its products
and again, just look at how the contemporary alt-right taps into that tradition with its "cultural marxism" hysteria, and how alt-centrists with their concomitant hysteria about "coddling sjw cultural marxists who dominate academia" play into the same themes
I'll end on this. the most ironic part of the smear campaign against corbyn was that the fake charge was actually true of his alt-right and alt-centrist opponents. in 2016 his labour opponent was casting him as a "rootless cosmopolitan", directly tapping into that toxic discourse
