MANAGING YOUR PERSONAL REPUTATION DAY 2
You must own the narrative about your reputation. There is a traditional saying in my place which literally says, "it is how the owner of the calabash calls his calabash that the people will help him call it". Image
The above simply means it's the way you present yourself that you will be accepted. You must never leave your image to whatever people can derive from your actions & inactions. There must be communication. Nature abhors vacuum. Don't allow people to fill the vacuum with rubbish
When you refuse to communicate, you give room to vacuum that must be filled and the filling of that vacuum may be extremely damaging to you as an individual, a group, organization or government. I have seen the present government give room to a lot of vacuum and it's being filled
Recall I ended yesterday with 2 terms: CORPORATE IDENTITY and CORPORATE IMAGE. Corporate identity, in lay man's term, is your beliefs, culture, values and anything that communicates who you are to the public. On the other hand, corporate image is what people see and say about you
Corporate image is how you are perceived by outsider and please remember that perception is stronger than reality. I will illustrate with a narration. Imagine yourself visiting a plastic manufacturing plant where your friend is the factory manager.
Your friend now requests your indulgence that he will serve you food in a potty (for poops) that is coming fresh from the machines in the plant, clean and without blemish as there is no plate in his office.

Will you eat such a food?
It'll be difficult for you because the reality is that the plate is clean but the perception is that potty is for poops.

That shows you the power of perception.

When perception is distorted, reality doesn't matter again.

That's the reason you must be concerned about perception
The moment your corporate identity and corporate image do not align, there's a problem for you to fix and this must not be ignored. When we ignore such signs, we do so at our own peril. When people do not see you for the values you uphold, it means your communication needs fixing
A little dose of political discourse will not be out of place in this thread.

It is no news that the present government has been very poor in communication both with the citizens and dissemination of information about their plans and programs.
Unfortunately, the president is taciturn by nature and he has surrounded himself with people who are not concerned about managing corporate reputation. Hence you discover that the public gets to know about their plans and programs through supporters who are on social media.
That is not the best way to manage the reputation of a government. Recall when the former president wrote a letter to the president, he instructed his aides not to reply him. Those actions are actions that care less about reputation. You must find a platform to address the issues
You must not allow people to label you in all manner of names and accusations and you leave them to be judged by God.

No!

You live with men and not with God.

You must be concerned with what men say about you because they are the ones that will assess your performance on earth
We will continue tomorrow and talk more about telling your story your own way.

You must manage your personal reputation and not leave it in the hands of people.

See you tomorrow!
