Did you know: Patrick Roy's involvement in the Sherbrooke Canadiens playoff run in 1985 was the result of a series of fortuitous events? #GoHabsGo (1/9)
Roy was a healthy scratch for the first three games of their first round series against the Fredericton Express, the farm club of the Quebec Nordiques.
For Game Four, backup goaltender Paul Pageau's wife went into labour, so he left the team to be in the hospital with her. (2/9)
Enter Patrick Roy who, as the new 3rd goaltender on the depth chart after getting called up from QMJHL Granby a few weeks earlier, got to dress as backup goaltender for Greg Moffett who started all the games thus far. (3/9)
Rick Knickle, who was 3rd in the depth chart prior to Roy arriving, remained with the Habs' IHL affiliate in Flint.
Coincidentally, Knickle would eventually make the NHL in 1992-93 for the Los Angeles Kings... the same year Roy and the Habs beat them in the NHL finals. (4/9)
So anyways, Roy is backing up Moffett in Game Four.

Sherbrooke is down 3-0 to Fredericton when Moffett blows out a strap on his goalie pad, and without a spare to replace it, is pulled in favour of Roy. (5/9)
Roy was greeted by the Sherbrooke crowd with a raucous applause, and proceeded to not only stone Fredericton shooters, but also frustrate them to the point where they were taking penalties against him. On one such power play, Ric Nattress scored to tie the game 3-3. (6/9)
Sherbrooke would win 5-4 in overtime on a goal by Mike Lalor to take a commanding 3-1 lead in their series, and eventually win the series.

Roy entering the game was a massive turning point in the series. (7/9)
A few days later Patrick Roy was recalled to Montreal because Steve Penney was injured and it was unsure if he could play.
Roy would miss the first game of Sherbrooke's second round series against the Maine Mariners, which Sherbrooke lost 5-2. (8/9)
Roy was back from Montreal in time for Game Two, and got the start for Sherbrooke, which they summarily won 9-2, and then won three more straight games with Roy in nets to head to the finals against Baltimore where history was made. (9/9)
