I re-watched the Dec 27th Rocket game to see where Juulsen could have been injured, and there is no evident single event where an upper-body injury could have occurred. He was still wearing the full shield after coming back from getting hit in the face with a puck repeatedly. (1)
He was playing a very poor game, with various brain cramps positionally, and poorly-timed pinches. Joel Bouchard played him with four separate defensive partners just to try and get his game going, and was visibly frustrated by decisions Juulsen was making on the ice. (2)
After skating off of the ice at the end of the second period, showing no visible signs of injury, Juulsen did not return for the third period. Some sort of conversation must have occurred during the intermission, and it was determined that Juulsen would not return. (3)
Now, I'm being told it's not a concussion in his case, but whatever it is that is keeping him out for an indeterminate amount of time was, in my opinion, something lingering, that was serious enough to shut down the player for an extended period of time for evaluations. (4)
One of his final shifts: He recovers the puck at the top of the zone and tries to deke his way into traffic, fumbling the puck twice. The play going the other way he is positioned correctly, but then floats towards the puck and almost runs into his own partner. (5)
