A journalist demonstrating their incompetence or their wilful deliberate propaganda

I sincerely hope it is the former

Because if it is the latter

Why deliberately lie?

And well... the cesspit of responses cheering on his post make me sad

------------
So anyway

There are two avenues in response to Andrew's post

The first avenue is why did we not join?
After all we are told Britain stands resplendent on the world stage an open global beacon demonstrating the to shining glorious sunlit uplands as a free, unshackled, sovereign, indepedent, swashbuckling nation led by as Robert Halfon MP puts it the "Lion King" Boris Johnson
We are told Britain is proud to be in Europe but not be in the EU
So why would we not take this opportunity to step up, to ramp up, to strain every sinew to demonstrate how we can work in partnership to lead an international response to a deadly global pandemic?
Or as Winston Churchill put it

"We hope to see a Europe where men of every country will think as much of being a European as of belonging to their native land, and that without losing any of their love and loyalty of their birthplace. "
"We hope wherever they go in this wide domain,to which we set no limits in the European Continent, they will truly feel "Here I am at home. I am a citizen of this country too".Let us meet together. Let us work together.Let us do our utmost - all that is in us—for the good of all"
Ignore Andrew Neil's lie on what the EU procurement scheme has achieved on PPE

Irrespective of what it has or has not achieved
Why did Britain not say when it first learned of this scheme (and thats a whole other story)

"Let us meet together. Let us work together. Let us do our utmost—all that is in us—for the good of all."

Helping citizens of other nations and "citizens of nowhere" to borrow a phrase
The second avenue is what has it achieved

Now sadly this is either being incompetent or is lying deliberately
If so I hope he can perhaps do more digging than I can to identify who has *chosen* to benefit from the EU scheme

The information below took just a few words on google

google.co.uk/search?q=eu+co…
Let me just quote from this

I will choose some key words/phrases to focus on as well just to help

It was published on the 24th March 2020

ec.europa.eu/commission/pre…
"The joint procurement of personal protective equipment launched by the European Commission to address the coronavirus crisis has proven successful."

key words

*proven successful*
"Producers made offers covering & in some cases even exceeding the quantities requested by the Member States that take part in the procurement, for every single item requested. The joint procurement covers masks type 2 and 3,gloves,goggles, face-shields, surgical masks & overalls"
"The equipment should be available two weeks* after the Member States sign the contracts with the bidders, which they should do very rapidly."

key words

*Member States sign contracts with the bidders"

*should do very rapidly*
"All over the world, there's right now a tremendous need for protective clothing and medical equipment. It is therefore a success that the Joint European Procurement Initiative has been able to secure on the world market concrete offers of considerable scale on shortest notice."
"This is EU solidarity in action. It shows that being part of the Union pays off. This material should soon provide considerable relief in Italy, Spain and in 23 more member states. Now it is up to the Member States to sign the necessary contracts swiftly.“
"The procurement for most equipment concerned was launched only a week ago, on 17 March, while a call for masks was initially launched on 28 February."
Now to be clear to Andrew

Perhaps he couldn't locate this EU press release

Or perhaps he didn't notice many UK press outlets who covered what it had managed to procure

I won't link the google search words I used for this again it was less than 6 words to find it
Now to also be representative for the benefit of many of those in Andrew's timeline responding to his post

I have included a range of newspaper outlets who have carried stories on it
Just to allay anyone who chooses to go ah well you have quoted the Guardian or the New European news outlets and well they are just remoaner metropolitan liberal elites or some other biased deflection garbage

Now a reminder of UK spin on EU procurement scheme

theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
This a deconstruction of the UK government focusing on the lies and spin narrative they are peddling

Now I am not a journalist

Or a "mad cat woman"

pressgazette.co.uk/bbcs-andrew-ne…
Oh yes and in other news this week - which isn't getting a huge amount of publicity in the UK at the moment as the focus lies elsewhere

A reminder of what a man who hides in fridges chose to do
