We came across calls for spamming certain hashtags and using templates from tweet banks while scrolling through a large Hindutva group (>3500 members) on @Telegram.

The trends were related to the Palghar incident and scapegoating of TJ and Muslims in India.

Tech savvy users and @TwitterSupport can match the times mentioned in the screenshots below with the exact moment these trends exploded.

Since #कोरोना_जमाती_वायरस is an older trend, the tweet bank google doc and inforgraphics folder had unfortunately been emptied. However, we were able to retrieve a snapshot of a cached copy from when the link was shared.

We were also able to find out the owner of the emptied Infographic folder.

The Google Drive folder link can be matched to the one mentioned in the TG message.

Coming on to #पालघरकांड_की_CBI_जांच_हो, we were able to access the Tweet bank and Infographics folder.

The Tweet bank should help @TwitterSupport and @jack in identifying bots, shill and spam accounts.

Searching for each template from the bank yields hundreds of tweets.

We then looked at the Infographics folder 2 determine whether the folder owners were the same for both trends

Lo and behold, they were indeed the same.

So who is Salil Gupta?

Searching using his username returned his profile across multiple platforms but this thread will be restricted to his Twitter persona.

This is the same person since the Sallu id was his older Twitter username.

According to Salil's profile, he was followed by Kailash Vijayvargiya, @BJP4India BJP's National General Secretary.

It wouldn't be far-fetched to assume that Salil's Twitter IT cell activities had the blessing of Mr Kailash.

@KailashOnline how much did Salil get paid?

It's imperative for @TwitterSupport to look into penalizing the much larger number of accounts that deliberately participate in artificial & bigoted trends.
