I mean to give both Telegraph & No 10 benefit of doubt, you’d ask: did Telegraph have pre-existing political agenda re lockdown? And where did story come from? Who’s on byline? Would Telegraph’s deputy political editor & chief political corr have a close relationship to no 10? 🤔
Remember the cabinet minister’s ‘illegal tryst’? He’s part of govt that made the lockdown rules (unlike Ferguson). He didn’t resign. The whole point of SAGE is that it’s meant to be independent so scientists can be free to speak their mind. Yet look what happens if you do.

Solidarity to @neil_ferguson. He's not a politician. He's a scientist. Who's had his privacy invaded by a newspaper with a pretty clear political agenda. Any country that fails to defend its scientists from political interference frankly doesn't deserve them
Weird, isn't it, how it was the deputy political editor & the political editor who stumbled on this important bedhopping story while not on the phone to SPAD contacts and No 10 advisors

Big political announcement yesterday about the contract-tracing app. But there’s a pattern here. Why is Britain - again - ignoring global consensus to go it alone? Why @MattHancock is app using *self-reported symptoms*? Why centralised not decentralised?

It’s not just that it needs more people to download it than use WhatsApp. It’s that it’s asking people to take on trust that someone they may not know has accurately reported their symptoms & that those symptoms are in fact COVID-19. That’s a lot of trust.
Is it going to work? It’s really hard to see how. And all this is *before* you consider @RaviNa1k & @rydermc’s team suggesting it may be illegal...
