Two generations of Americans, now, have been educated (propagandized, really) about what will happen while Global Warming/Climate Change kills us all. But there’s no room in their imaginations for what happens when the economy collapses. They just have not been taught.
Also: @SethLeibsohn needs to use a new headshot, because I’m vain.

Freshman year of high school, my English teacher wrote, “Dave is Evil” on the chalkboard because she disagreed with my politics.
She sent me to the Vice Principal for a psych evaluation—“he has an unhealthy obsession with right-wing politics,” she said.

Thankfully, I had other teachers and my parents to come to my defense. But the meetings and paperwork lasted several infuriating months.
She was your typical teachers union partisan Democrat. I had a couple right-leaning teachers, too—you could identify them because they didn’t bring politics into the classroom and bully their students. I didn’t give a damn; I argued right back.

RIP Lee Konitz—one of the most imaginative and beautiful improvisers to ever play in the jazz idiom. In 1953, he sat in as the featured soloist with Gerry Mulligan at the Haig in LA. That record, released on Pacific Jazz, is one of my absolute favorites. youtube.com/playlist?list=…
Lee plays his ass off—I’m not sure who in ‘53 could’ve pulled off a performance like this. In a world of Charlie Parker clones, his sound was unique while still using Bird’s bebop grammar. Sheer beauty and genius.
By the late 50s, Lee had moved away from emulation of his great teacher Lennie Tristano’s long, logical and labyrinthine lines. He also used a harsher tone. As he got older he kept moving farther and farther away from Tristano’s influence and toward his own idiomatic sound.

If you take any food tips from me, try this amazing breakfast. I’ll tell you what’s involved.
I prep meals of 100g of ground beef with a veggie and mushroom stir-fry. I put these meals it in the freezer. I usually make enough to last about two weeks.
In the AM, I cook 2 whole eggs with 1 cup of egg whites. I usually mix with fresh spinach. At the same time, I’m warming up the beef and veggies in the microwave (2:30). It’s timed perfectly. When the eggs are done, I just mix them into the meal prep box.
