Big news from the Netherlands.

No relegation OR promotion this season.

It was thought Cambuur (11 points clear) and De Graafschap (7) would be promoted from the second division to create a 20-team Eredivisie next season.
16 clubs voted for Eredivisie promotion and relegation

9 clubs voted against promotion and relegation

9 clubs abstained saying the Dutch FA (KNVB) should decide

So the KNVB did decide, and scrapped promotion and relegation
As I suggested may be the case, no champions in the Netherlands this year.

Eredivisie title left vacant with Ajax and AZ Alkmaar both level on points.
The Dutch FA turned down a vote on promotion without relegation, because the KNVB did not think a 20-team Eredivisie season would be feasible.

UCL group stage: Ajax
UCL qualifying: AZ Alkmaar
UEL group stage: Feyenoord
UEL 3QR: PSV Eindhoven
UEL 2QR: Willem II
For the aVOIDance of doubt, the Eredivisie season is not null and void.

Classification when games stopped is used. Points Per Game wouldn't have altered one placing, so not required.

The league chose to cancel promotion and relegation.

It's fully in line with UEFA's wishes.
To reiterate, from the Eredivisie official statement (thanks to Google translate). There is a final ranking, which is the last ranking.

Ok, let's break down what today's UEFA meeting means for Champions League and Europa League qualification.

Firstly, UEFA has effectively taken "null and void" off the table because access must be "based on sporting merit in the 2019/20 domestic competitions".
Obviously, UEFA wants everyone to finish their seasons, but it accepts this may not be possible if:

- governments place an official order prohibiting sports events
- continuing the season creates insurmountable economic problems and risks long-term financial instability
If a league cannot be completed in full, UEFA prefers leagues to finish the season with a different format, which suggests possible small playoff systems.

"Preferable domestic competitions restart with a different format in a manner which would facilitate sporting merit."

A return to some kind of normality for a moment?

A thread to explain the changes to the Laws of the Game for 2020-21, as announced last night.

Starting with a key change to VAR protocol which should see the Premier League get in line.
VAR protocol in the new Laws of the Game removes the word "often" in relation to an 'on-field review' (pitchside monitors), removing the ambiguity that allowed the Premier League to not use them and still be within VAR protocol.
There is also what appears to be a clear reference to the Premer League in the circular on changes to Laws of the Game.

"Recent communication from these competition organisers signalled a positive shift towards the universal application of the protocol from next season."

Here's a thread here on the huge challenges European football faces in being able to resume and complete this season.

An explanation of the issues, why UEFA will take a lead in much of it, and why playing beyond June 30 is problematic.
Let's first say that Euro 2020 simply isn't going to happen this summer. That's a given through all of this, but removing Euro 2020 from the calendar is not a magic wand to fix all the domestic leagues.
The 55 member nations will meet with UEFA executives on Tuesday to try and find the best route out of this.

Without even considering what might happen to the UEL and the UCL, the major issue is completing the domestic leagues and when 2020-21 can begin.
