I think we are too polite about IDEAS.

We should be polite to people, even when they are occasionally a bit wayward (Ahem..alhotra).

But ideas don't have feelings. So instead of the below, I would wish Dr Birx would have said,

"No, each of those is a completely insane idea."
Why do you think she said "I haven't heard of them being used", instead of being clear that this was crazy?
I don't imagine anyone particularly wants to be seen standing next to the village idiot who has accidentally been made president as part of an elaborate practical joke.

She canNOT be desperate for that job. I am sure there are less embarrassing jobs to do.
In fact being sacked by the Ultraviolet-therapist-in-chief is a badge of honour.
I reckon, rather, that she is used to speaking in polite conversation. Many senior doctors speak like that.

"Oh, you do the Twitter, Darrel. That must be very interesting."

When they actually mean, "why on earth do you waste your life doing that?"
I recently wrote a grant and needed the Head Boss of the Institute to sign it off. He read it and wrote back,

"This is a very unique grant application."

I was very proud of this email.
It was only later that I realised he had completely freaked out because it was odd.
Luckily people translated his comment for me, and I was able to revise it to half-satisfy him.

However, I had the benefit of intermediaries who were attuned to this high-flying euphemism business.
The problem here is that the "First Epidemiologist" said,
"Dr Birks is testing laser bleach treatment, aren't you?"

and she replied,

"I haven't heard of those"
So a large number of deplorables will take that as,

"the Great Scientist is ahead of the game as always, and this so-called expert who is assisting him is completely lost and out-of-date."
We need the Fauci's and Birx's of the government to speak openly to the press that,

"What the President said was completely wrong.
This is because he is a great big chimpanzee who has been made president as a prank.
Please take no notice of him for health advice."
