1. Anderson Cooper raised an interesting point here: are people calling for a quick re-opening of the economy (before testing-and-tracing infrastructure is in place) willing to work in dangerous places?
2. It's common to talk about the pandemic as a war. But it's a war where the frontline soldiers -- the essential workers -- have been drafted into a fight they didn't know they were getting. And the push to quickly re-open the economy is further conscription.
3. So: a modest proposal: if this is a war, then all sectors of society need to be drafted: dangerous work should be shared by all. Trump should work a day a week as a hospital orderly, Brian Kemp should work in an Amazon warehouse. thenation.com/article/societ…
