It's just unreal, except it is real. All of this death and a president pitching "bleach and UV light miracle cures... We'll soon reach the Vietnam war death toll yet a majority of Republicans/white voters are STILL like "this is all fine." We truly are 2 countries in 1 nightmare.
Elected Republicans are emptying the piggybank and the home safe and hawking all of mom's jewelry to stuff money into rich people and corporations' pockets while the house burns down with the work crew trapped inside. And several GOP state governors are just watching it burn.
This whole system is just broken. Lordy...

Correct. Overconfidence is not only bad strategy, it negates the power of pure ideology and existential fear of a loss of status, which will be driving Trump's side, plus the reality of what that side is willing to do to win: mass disenfranchisement, accepting foreign help etc.
Trumpism isn't some new thing. It's an ongoing battle over American identity, which millions of conservative white Christians view as slipping away from them. Trump will win a majority of white voters. Full stop. And nonwhite voters will face epic disenfranchisement.
This former Trump supporter summarizes the stakes. Trump is just an avatar for what amounts to an insurgency against cultural change. Read @robertpjones @Edsall @stuartpstevens & others to understand it.

This is true. With the exception of Texas and Alaska which are basically mini petrostates, most red states are on the federal dole, with their budgets infused with blue state tax money. Kind of a different way to think of the term "blue state bailout." wallethub.com/edu/states-mos…
