Follow up comments from yesterday's thread on Hierarchy, Democracy, and the limits of Sadopopulism.

The thread got long so I'll start over.
(I'll add to this as I look through comments)

Interesting👇
It's basically how @jasonintrator explains hierarchy.
From Prof. Stanley 👇The dominant group feels victimized by encroaching equality because the dominant group believes that nature forms a hierarchy.

Thus when “inferior” groups seek equality, the dominant group thinks the inferior group want to displace them at the top.

1/
What’s actually happening is that the oppressed groups want equality.

But if people hold a hierarchal view of nature, the demand for equality feels threatening, because they think the people demanding equality are actually trying to achieve power over them.

2/
People who hold a hierarchal view don't think that equality (democracy) is possible, so when someone tries to climb up and join them at the top, they feel threatened.

If you've noticed that members of the GOP often act like they're victims, that's why.

3/
They feel threatened by encroaching . . . democracy.

I'll add more later.

Meanwhile, people found the thread depressing, so if you want to add some cute kitties and dogs to the comments, that might help.
Here's something interesting with a h/t to @raortman livescience.com/26245-chimps-v…
Chimps have a sense of fairness.

Sometimes the lesson isn't easy to learn.
