I know #WorldBookDay was yesterday but I was busy. I am going to share with you a few books I’m reading and citing to write my own books.

I’m writing a book on the politics of toilet insecurity. For that book, this is a sampler of what I’m reading (including @lezlielowe’s)
This is not a book (yet) but a couple of methodological articles on comparison. As you all know, I’m a comparativist and an ethnographer. So I’m writing on comparative ethnography (building on Simmons, Abramson, Gong and others) plus MUCH OLDER work on CE from anthro/socio.
I keep seeing a dearth if scholarship on homelessness policy in the political science/policy sciences/public administration fields. Also, no work on Mexico. So I said “fuck it, I’m doing it myself”

Not an environmental topic, but since I study vulnerable communities...
I just finished writing the introductory and concluding chapters on a book on water conflicts in Mexico. While the book is co-edited and it’s in Spanish, I’m the project PI and these chapters are my responsibility. I cited @matorrew @GiseZarem and others including these.
I’m extending my joint work on the ethics of bottled water with @christyzen and I’m going to cite these two books too.
And obviously I cite water works but these three stood out as being under cited in my work so I brought them with me.

I used to struggle to buy books as a graduate student. I often had to choose between eating and purchasing textbooks (I opted for buying food, obviously)
But now that I have a professor job (and since I’m single and childless), my approach to books is:

“I like it, I buy it”

I also buy books by dear friends of course, even if the topic isn’t mine, just to be supportive.

#WorldBookDay
As I was driving back from Aguascalientes to León, I told my Mom that the past few weeks, now that my psoriasis/dermatitis/eczema have receded, I’ve REALLY enjoyed writing.

I DO like writing books and book chapters and articles.

I love seeing my name in print.

#WorldBookDay
But even more importantly, I love writing stuff that people read and cite and learn from.

In the end, I did a PhD and I do research and I write to explain phenomena. Not only to myself but to other people in the world.

I study important topics, I ask good, relevant questions.
