#swfc Chansiri DOES have a lot to answer for, as Waddle says in the article.

But I think Waddlee's criticism is slightly misguided:

It would've been fitting at the end of Carvalhal's tenure, but not so much now IMHO. I'll try to explain why in the thread below.

[1/?]
I've been as critical as anyone of the (lack of) leadership at our club, but there HAVE been steps made to change things (albeit too small)

[2/?]
1) We have a recruitment setup, the two people brought in by Bruce, that works in tandem with the infamous "transfer committee" (which is now apparently just Paixao) and our manager.

[3/?]
2) We no longer just throw money at it in the hope something sticks and makes us successful.

Since June 2018 I would estimate us to be £4m IN PROFIT in the transfer market.

From 2015-2018 we lost a net £35m, though...

[4/?]
It's even more pronounced when you look at wages:

The players on permanent contracts, who have left since June 2018, make up £10m in yearly wages.

Putting that into perspective:

That's more than 1/4 of our total wage bill (12 months) listed in the 2017/18 accounts.

[5/?]
...while we've only added £3m in new wages on permanent contracts since June 2018. Less than 1/3 of the wages we've shed in the same period.

[6/?]
That's £7m saved on the yearly wage bill since 2018.

In the first three years of Chansiri's chairmanship, on top of the estimated £35m net spending on transfer fees, we also added £12m a year in wages for permanent transfers.

[7/?]
Only 14 of the players in our squad, who have made first team appearances, are under contract for the 2020/21 season and it's of course not realistic the wage bill that would then stay as low as the £11m those cost in wages a year.

[8/?]
If no expiring contract is renewed, and we sign 8 players on £600k a year for a senior squad of 22, we'd have a wage bill of £15m.

(using the estimated £600k in yearly wages on average for the permanent signings since June 2018 (Odubajo, Börner, Iorfa, Harris, Luongo))

[9/?]
This is all assuming, of course, that all of next season isn't "hibernated" due to #Covid19UK.

Any decision to play games of the 20/21 season behind closed doors would hit us relatively harder than other clubs, as nearly half our revenue is match day revenue - the Championship.
