A thing that scares me is the way a lot of people talk about the "peak" of the virus like it's a fixed point.

But the virus isn't a ball that was thrown into the air, with only so much force behind it and when it runs out of upward momentum it must inexorably fall. It is a self-propelled rocket that can refuel itself as it goes.
The peak will only be the peak in retrospect. We will only be able to look at when it peaked after the fact, after it has completely run its course. If we get careless because we have hit a current peak and we think it's gone... the rocket refuels. The upward trajectory resumes.
