I feel like a lot of the "we must re-open, but we must do it PROPERLY" has a lot of CYA baked in. Because when we re-open (this is definitely happening... the debate is over for now), if it's a catastrophe ppl can say "well, we didn't do it PROPERLY like I suggested."
To be clear, we do have to re-open, & we do have to do it properly. But I just think too many ppl are positioning themselves to say "I told you so."

Me? I'm positioning myself to get through the summer without going running out of food or getting sick. Everything else is 2ndary
I'll go ahead & plant my flag. Bookmark, & hopefully u can rub my nose in it in a few weeks:

1. We're reopening right now. It's on. I don't care what the polls say, ppl are over it & are going back out.

2. Mask adoption will be poor in many places.
3. There's no real plan or strategy that we'll actually follow other than YOLO. Sure, there are plans out there, but we won't follow them for the most part. On the ground, it's just YOLO w/ some FOMO mixed in.
4. The summer heat will probably not save us. Pointing to the lower case counts & fatalities in the global south, as popular in some quarters, is GIGO. The global south lags in testing capacity, so that is all those numbers are telling you.
5. Our main source of hope for avoiding catastrophe is the possibility that this virus is way more widespread than we think & way less dangerous. That is very unlikely & is a minority opinion with a high burden of proof. It is NOT IMPOSSIBLE, but it's like discovering cold fusion
6. Fatality rates will spike & we will see more metro areas with overwhelmed hospitals. The economic fallout from this spike will be really bad --- I won't say it'll be worse than what we'd face if we stayed in lockdown, b/c that'd be catastrophic, too. Either road is grim.
So I think bodies will stack, anger will build, recriminations will fly, & it'll get even more weird than it is even now. Everyone will blame everyone else for not listening to them.

As a parent, citizen, & investor, I hope to God I'm totally wrong & we all had rona in November.
Some advice I hope ppl will take: unless you're setting policy or running money or are paid to think about this, you don't have to have an opinion on the above, much less be correct. You just have to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. That's it. Stay focused on that.
You can’t control the wind, but u can control your sail. Figure out where/what your particular sail is & just stay steady focused on it & don’t let go or get distracted by the chaos.
Everyone I get on a Zoom chat with for any reason has one burning question they feel intense pressure to find an answer to: what’s next?

Don’t put that pressure on yourself if you can avoid it. Just stop. It’s a distraction. Instead, focus on being ready for WHATEVER is next.
The answer is sane, rational prepping. Prepping is not knowing what's next (hyperinflation, Yellowstone eruption, commie invasion) & preparing for that specific thing. It's getting the basics of air, water, food, shelter, power, etc. together & ready.

That way, you have a baseline level of physical & mental security. I can breath, drink, eat, & stay warm & dry, no matter how crappy it all gets. I can stay reasonably healthy. I can keep myself & my loved ones physically safe. I can even run & hide if I need to.
Once you have that basic stuff in place, it'll help with your anxiety & allow you to keep things in perspective a lot better than if you're in a panic about meeting basic needs.
