You know that rapid increase in temperature that happens when you turn of the AC or when power is cut (NEPA)? It is because Nigerian homes are built without any consideration for heat shielding or temperature gain.
Our houses are just built! No consideration for the actual reason for shelter. Heck some roofs even leak!

Shelter is meant to protect humans from the elements and the use of energy is meant to be optimal: measured not wasteful.
Whether the energy is used for cooling or heating: as in Jos, heat loss mitigation measures need to be adapted into our buildings to ensure the energy consumption through the lifespan of the building is as minimal as possible, reducing associated costs to building itself.
Heat transfer is highest across conductive surface, so think about all the surfaces and gaps that allow heat into or out of your home: windows, doors, ceilings even walls, these are areas that allow for heat losses and energy inefficiency.
This is why your AC is constantly working and not cycling off at set temperature. The room temperature never drops to the set temperature and thus your AC constantly works, losing energy to the environment.
We need to reconsider our Buildings' energy management policy in Nigeria, there has to a concerted effort at minimizing energy losses to the environment. Some of the measures that can be employed in building energy management include:
1. Double glazed windows

2. Gap sealing your windows using temperature seals

3. Cladding your walls using adhesive materials in or externally, like asphalt pads.

4. Ensuring gaps underneath your doors are sealed off using slip on antiwear mats or stips of carpet bristles.
5. Ensure your floors are covered, as much as possible, preventing heat loss to your tiles and flooring.

6. Proper cooling equipment sizing which helps with energy conservation and reduced power consumption.
If your AC is improperly sized, jt will continue to draw it max current at all times, constantly burning up your power units. This can be mitigated by installing the right size AC.
Energy management will also fo a long way in helping to stabilize the grid, minimizing sudden peaks and troughs in the energy load chart.
