The @BorisJohnson statement - nothing has changed. Lots of energy. Lots of platitude. No apology for mistakes in early days. Not one word about the social care sector so badly failed. Not one word about PPE or testing fiascos. Very little empathy for the dead and grieving. 1/3
Involving Oppostion properly - that will come as a shock as they have been shut out so far. As for claiming this has been a relative success - delusional. We are world leading in death from this virus. Media twaddling on about new tone. Nonsense. Same old same old. And no Qs 2/3
He looks fine though. So there can be no excuse for him not doing PMQs in Wednesday. Indeed if he believed in accountability to parliament he would offer a Commons statement today. 3/3

Thoughts for Govt/others-Though @BorisJohnson illness is clearly alarming for millions and deeply upsetting for his family and friends there are two important things it has already achieved - 1. Nobody but nobody can now not fully see how serious and dangerous the disease is. 1/5
2. Public and media will be more understanding of the hugely difficult task government faces. A third important thing is that now it is clear he is very ill, the rest of government, ministers and civil servants, must embrace the added responsibility this gives them. 2/5
I strongly advise they do not spend all their time talking about, and worrying about, what is happening at St Thomas’s. There is nothing they can do about that. They must focus on the things they can do, including big decisions ahead and how they will be made. 3/5

It was pretty obvious that Rudiger was saying he’d heard monkey chants and the ref was passing that on.Odd that @SkySports team didn’t pick up straight away tho @GNev2 now saying the right things. As he did recently when linking the rise in racism in football to @BorisJohnson 1/4
Casual and not casual racism in his media & other public utterances give a sense of entitlement to those who never thought there was a problem with abusing black players and would be happy if they could do it again. ‘If the PM can be racist and get away with it, why can’t I?’ 2/4
I am old enough to remember the era of monkey chants and bananas thrown on the pitch. It took concerted campaigning and above all action to put an end to it and it will take similar to stop it coming back with a vengeance. It is not ‘political correctness gone mad/free speech’3/4

As legend that is @eucopresident might say a special place in hell surely waiting for @rolandrudd Even as he ‘steps down’ as chair of @peoplesvote_uk (a title he awarded himself Idi Amin/Victoria X style some time ago) he simultaneously seeks to crash the rest of the campaign 1/5
For a self-styled ‘PR guru’ he isn’t very good at it. He is much better at bad faith. Damaged his own brand and that of Finsbury/WPP about which I couldn’t care less (though I hope his clients do)but in the process has done real damage to @peoplesvote_uk brand too. 2/5
Good to hear from senior @LibDems sources that he has no chance of a lifetime achievement peerage from them. But @BorisJohnson may feel he deserves one given the remarkable achievement of taking a great anti-Brexit campaign off the battlefield on the day an election called 3/5
