Casual and not casual racism in his media & other public utterances give a sense of entitlement to those who never thought there was a problem with abusing black players and would be happy if they could do it again. ‘If the PM can be racist and get away with it, why can’t I?’ 2/4
I am old enough to remember the era of monkey chants and bananas thrown on the pitch. It took concerted campaigning and above all action to put an end to it and it will take similar to stop it coming back with a vengeance. It is not ‘political correctness gone mad/free speech’3/4
It is defending progress made. Which can all too easily be lost when the country has at the peak of its political system someone without moral compass 4/4
