Arguably you cd trace Treaty of Rome signed in March '57 treaty, back to June '55 Messina conference, or even the creation of the Economic Coal and Steel Community in '51.
By February 1956 the writing was on the wall.

Anyway, what happened in 1955 or 1957 is irrelevant - another nice try by UK to invoke precedent. The EU and UK have diametrically opposed objectives in so many areas. Right now I don’t see either side moving, so there won’t be a deal in six weeks or six months.
