A couple months ago, I wrote online—and I saw a lot of people writing online—that *nothing* would be as it was until mid-2021, and that some things would be changed forever. Major media was slower to pick up on this, but they're now coming around. This is a pretty good article.
PS/ But I also think it's important to say *why* major media was slow on this. It was slow on this because Donald Trump and the Republican Party were saying we would get back to normal soon, and many in corporate media perceived telling the truth as being a kind of partisanship.
PS2/ This is one of the reasons corporate media is collapsing, and independent media animated by the conventional journalistic principles of objectivity, accuracy, transparency, and honesty is ascendant. We can write what we believe accurate—whether or not it will broadly please.
PS3/ Don't get me wrong: corporate media will exist for a *very* long time, because it has the resources to do original reporting. My point is that once that original reporting is *done*, the utility of *processing* it through a corporate media superstructure is actually minimal.
PS4/ Essentially, corporate and independent media need to form a virtuous circle or generative feedback loop in which the former brings to bear its resources (administrative, human and financial) and the latter offers both direction on the front end and synthesis on the back end.
PS5/ Independent media already offers many of the leads corporate media pursues, and already offers the most valuable synthesis of corporate-media reporting. And the reason for this is that responsible independent media has already accepted that the Trumpists are a *lost cause*.
PS6/ One of the many reasons that corporate media needed to stop ever airing Trump live or interviewing Republicans with a history of lying to newswatchers is that it made reporting accurately more difficult—because a network's news coverage would become internally contradictory.
PS7/ By contrast, if corporate media had a policy against putting on-air deranged people trying to popularize their own simulation of reality, it would find that its ability to report out facts and synthesize those facts using longstanding journalistic principles is nearly total.
PS8/ Corporate media is Dr. Birx. It knows broadly what's true; it knows it's complicit in a news landscape that fails to achieve verifiable accuracy; it tells itself that it's doing the best it can. Like Birx, it doesn't consider itself empowered to develop a different paradigm.
