2/ I guess the advantage of having it be the government is, if you're in the U.S. at least, they're accountable. But most progressives seem intent on giving huge amounts of speech-policing power to, like, Google and Facebook, which consistently shocks me. Less accountable!
3/I was surprised at how during the Carlos Maza thing (before he came out as explicitly pro-internet-harassment), so many progressives openly endorsed standards for YouTube that would be tighter than what prevails on basic cable. Complete myopic lack of foresight about tradeoffs.
