Second thread: on reporting qualitative results, good models for research reporting and presentation.

If I don't cite your paper here, please do not feel offended. It's not that I don't think you report your results badly, I just had to choose a few examples.

Ok, on to it:
On reporting ethnography. @JessicaCalarco 's recent Americal Sociological Review (@asr_journal) is a very good example of how to report ethnographic and interview results. See my highlights in page 10.

Note how Jess sets the stage, makes a theoretical point, THEN shows evidence
This results' reporting is consistent both with my Description vs. Analysis discussion raulpacheco.org/2017/05/distin… and with @PJDunleavy 's model of paragraph construction medium.com/advice-and-hel… & with @thomsonpat and Kamler's idea of Tiny Texts (where entire quotation+analysis=...)
... would be Pat and Barbara's Tiny Text.

Let me use Jess, Patrick, Pat and Barbara's insights (and mine) to make a point I've repeatedly made before:

You can use data (in this case, qualitative) to break free from your writer's block by writing the ANALYSIS of these data.
I use this "write the analysis component associated with this piece of data" strategy as a prompt to get me writing.

raulpacheco.org/2017/03/using-…

(or like Pat and Barbara would say, to build a Tiny Text, or like @jolijensen would say, to "stay in touch with my writing").
Another excellent example of qualitative data reporting is @_alice_evans ' recent Gender & Society piece. In the same fashion as I explained above, Alice sets the theoretical background/expectation, THEN presents a quotation that adds to the explanation provided by theory.
This is @_alice_evans ' Gender & Society piece journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/08… and this one is @jessicacalarco 's ASR journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.11…

I have to finish a paper by Friday, so I can't continue this thread for today, but I'll be adding more pieces to this and my other two threads.
