Under California law, the public (including this child’s family) is *prohibited* from finding out whether this officer gets disciplined for this violence. One of the worst laws for accountability in America. Repeal it.
Even after the passage of SB 1421, which opened up a tiny portion of misconduct records, California & 22 other states continue to prohibit the public from accessing most info about officer discipline/accountability. 12 states make all of this info public. wnyc.org/story/police-m…
That means we have no (legal) way of knowing if this or any officer in the state has been accused of past misconduct or whether he gets disciplined or fired for this incident. Without this data, we can’t design Early Intervention Systems that could’ve ID’ed him & prevented this.
