This article by @ashishkjha about the failure of leadership by the @CDCgov is spot on. But I see it as part of a pattern of the denigration of intellectualism that has happened in the Trump era. Expertise is no longer admired. Fact finding is verboten. Evidence is dismissed. 1/3
Just 2.5 years ago, scientists at @CDCgov were forbidden by the administration from using specific words. This pattern of squashing science and data-driven policy making is purposeful, insidious, and detrimental.

Before You Put On That Mask

I get it. You want to do *anything* you can to prevent the spread of this virus to you and your loved ones.

But before you put it on, PLEASE keep the following in mind:

1. Most importantly, wearing a mask does not in any way substitute for staying home. Staying home is BY FAR the best thing you can do to slow the spread of the virus. Do not think that you can now do non-essential activities because you are wearing a mask. Stay home.
2. There is no evidence that “mask-wearing countries” have lower rates of spread *because of* mask wearing. The countries that socially wear masks also instituted robust testing and isolation protocols, as well as widespread adherence to stay at home directives. Some even

There seems to be a lot of confusion and misinformation about the idea of hydroxychloroquinine and azithromycin for treating #COVID19

A thread.
This idea started because of a very small study published in France that showed apparent benefit from the drug combination. Similar reports have come out of China.

There are some things to note about this:

1. It was very very small.
2. It was open-label and not randomized.

Non-randomized, open-label studies are often prone to significant bias.
