Thread 🧵

Why do I feel strongly about Ahmadism and its relationship with Pakistan.

I broke my leg in a skiing trip in Switzerland in 1989.

As I had lost my mother at the age of 7, I was sent to live with a family that happened to be Ahmadists.
This was my father’s friend and colleague, who had been an Ahmadist missionary in Mauritius and Belgium.

My father was a single parent businessman and had to constantly travel overseas, so we were stuck there for 3 months, in a beautiful part of the Ardennes.
Unbeknownst to the gentleman, his family would start telling me stories about the Messiah and Mahdi and how the second coming of Jesus had already happened. Also told me that Jesus’ grave was in Kashmir.

Let’s just say I was brainwashed into this cult
And decided that when I am older, I would like to become an Ahmadi.

A few years after that, while studying in the UK, I got hold of a lot of Ahmadist literature and started reading and studying the religion for myself, having discussions with many Ahmadists.
I gained a lot of knowledge during that time, which led me to believe that this religious movement was created by Mirza Sahab to please the British Raj, and that it somehow went out of hand, and became a money making exercise.

For this reason, I usually cannot avoid the topic.
