It's amazing the degree to which India has developed a drinking culture cutting across social strata

"When will liquor shops open" seems to be the top question for so many

Back when Fa Hien visited India circa 400 CE, he commented most respectable Indians didn't consume alcohol
Also our shAstras strongly discourage consumption of alcohol

The social taboos in the past against alcohol was nearly strong as what it was against certain forbidden meats

Today, this taboo has totally collapsed
"Trads" on twitter and elsewhere keep raising the "beef" issue

No doubt beef is prohibited. But seldom is alcohol objected to

I think this is a "tactical" compromise by H-Right.

Beef remains taboo as Muslims like it
Alcohol is ok as Muslims hate it
This kind of selective and reactionary moralizing by "conservatives" is not healthy for Hindu society

It's about time a healthy discourse against alcohol develops in India
