"UK restaurants warn social distancing will put them out of business" Three quarters of firms feel they couldn't survive drastic restrictions.

Thing is, while I feel dreadfully sorry for the owners, I am at a loss to see what the alternative is?

What I mean is, if it genuinely puts diners in danger if restaurants *don't* space tables out, how can that possibly be advisable? Regardless of the business impact, that is?

Surely there's no realistic argument to be made that prioritises business to the exclusion of health?
(And I say this as someone who enjoyed dining out a lot - probably more than was good for me - before the coronavirus crisis started.)

Perhaps some truly radical new business ideas will be needed? Not just a quick fix, but a complete rethink of the out-of-home eating experience?

There's been more gaslighting during the coronavirus crisis than in a Dickens novel. According to the Tories:
- there was always a plan
- said plan worked perfectly
- UK "succeeded" despite over 28,000 deaths
- everyone has access to the PPE they need (they only *feel* otherwise)
- they've followed the science
- British science is better science
- death tolls can't actually be calculated for *years*
- no need to close the borders, because it was too early and then immediately too late
- outdoor gatherings are safe, so lockdown everything NOW!
- we always prioritised protecting care homes, which is why we discharged infected patients back into them
- bailout of the economy is smooth
- we had no way of working out the actual death toll until the end of April, when we magically produced revised figures covering every day

By fudging the death toll figures and moving the goalposts on what's counted or not, the Government has locked the conversation onto "are we the worst/second worst country in Europe".

What the media SHOULD be screaming about is the 28,161+ poor people who have lost their lives.
Where we rank is abstract. Sure, deaths underpin it, but it's still a sanitised conversation. "That album got to number two." "Return of the King is my top film." "Our death toll..."

28,161+ people are dead.

That's 28,161+ more than zero.

That's the real story here. Focus!
Boris Johnson & his Cabinet should be required to read out the names of everyone who's died.

At a measured, respectful three seconds per name, it would take them nearly a full day to get through the list.

Perhaps that might finally cut through their facade of simpering hubris.

2. Graphic clearly says "conducted on" when the tests weren't conducted on the day, but merely bunged in the post.

Imagine trying to use the same "logic" with a teacher...
