Unless something is urgently done by the Ekiti State COVID-19 Task Force and the management of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti, a 26-year-old woman could lose her life.

And this is after already losing her nine-month-old pregnancy.

This woman, admitted as a case of Fetal Distress on Wednesday, also presented with fever, which may or may not have been COVID-19.

She was supposed to immediately undergo an emergency CS, which, of course, required the healthcare workers to don the PPE.
2/7
However, due to the late provision of PPE, the CS was delayed by about five hours. By the time it was done, the baby had died in the uterus.

There is strong medical argument that the baby would have survived had the CS been done immediately.

Since losing her baby, the woman has been in respiratory distress but doctors are not seeing her because of the difficulty of getting the PPE, even though you’d still find some non-clinical hospital staff donning the N95 mask!
4/7
To get the PPE, the request has to be channeled through a TYPED (not handwritten) letter to the CMAC. This process gulped five hours on Wednesday!

Now, since yesterday, the Ekiti State COVID-19 task Force has been notified of the need to test the woman...

...to ascertain her COVID-19 status, but they haven’t turned up. This is a poor 26-year-old who has already lost her baby.

Understandably, the HCWs don’t want to near her without PPE. Yet even the state task force isn’t showing up.
6/7
The hospital should henceforth make the PPE readily available and the task force should come take her samples quickly.

Please join me in escalating this by retweeting. Let’s save a poor woman’s life.
