May 2, the Birthday of Eminent Archeologist BB Lal. The Man who spearheaded the "Archeology of Ramayana Sites" project and discovered the *pillar bases with Hindu dieties* in the Babri complex in Ayodhya. He led the excavation of various Kuru sites like Hastinapur and Ahichhatra
The ICHR Project over the Ramayana sites was launched in the 1970s and covered Ayodhya, Bharadwaj Ashram, Chitrakut, Sringaverapura and Nandigram. After the initial reports of discovery pillar bases in Ayodhya, the project was shut down for almost 10 years.
Technical facilities withdrawn and all requests for further assistance denied to the ASI team. Only a preliminary report was submitted in 1989 and the final report was never prepared about the findings of the 1976 excavations in Ayodhya.
Prof BB Lal's contribution to the discovery of the Painted Grey Ware Culture sites ( Later Vedic period corresponding to the Kuru Panchala Kingdoms) remain his greatest work. Sites like Hastina, Kurukshetra, Barnava and Mathura have been unearthed by his untiring efforts.
A strong opponent of the Aryan invasion theory, BB Lal has tried to correlate facts from the great epics to actual archeological finds (like the Great flood discussed in Mahabharata has contemporary evidence in the excavations)
We owe a lot to such archeologists who stood the onslaught of leftist distortions and intellectual debasement. His work has helped discover sites mentioned in the Great Epics , and have brought legend and truth a little closer. End.
