Just saw the UNESCO Heritage sites in India, and the tentative list on Wiki. Some amazing places on the tentative lists but here is a list of places i think should have been on our UNESCO list
The Tirupati Sri Venkateswara Temple in Andhra. Hinduism's most visited site , the gold coated Vimana, the Vijayanagara architecture and the amazing folklore deserves it a place there
The Gomateshwara Monolithic statue located in Sravanabelagola, Karnataka. The 9th century Jain statue on the Chandragiri hills is one of the world's largest free standing statues. Should be on that list!
The Ghats of Varanasi. The Ancient city of Kashi, among the world's oldest continuously inhabited urban centres. Should be among the UNESCO heritage list.
Jim Corbett National Park. The Oldest Tiger Reserve in India, nestled in the lower Himalayan ranges, and home to a large number of the Bengal Tigers, this should be on India's submission list to UNESCO !
The Maratha Forts of Maharashtra. The series of defensive forts built and maintained in the Western Ghats are a memory to the great medieval skills of our ancestors. Definitely worth adding to our UNESCO list !
Sher Shah Suri's tomb is Sasaram, Bihar. This fine example of Indo-Islamic architecture built in red sandstone is a silent memorial to the man who almost ended the Mughal Empire. Must add to the list for UNESCO recognition.
Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar, Punjab. A bloody reminder to the cruelty of the British Empire, this historic garden is an intangible part of our heritage and of the brutal resistance to independence movements all over.
The Great Bridges of India. They are a part of our history as much as they are of our geography.

1. Howrah Bridge, Kolkata
2. Gandhi Setu, Patna
3. Godavari Bridge , Rajamundry, AP
4. Pamban Bridge, Tamil Nadu.

The Temple Town of Kumbakonam. Every inch of this town is a temple in itself. Tall Gopurams and adorned Vimanas take us back in history to an era of cultural Renaissance and temple economy. The entire town should be declared a heritage site. #UNESCO
The Prehistoric Sites of Sanganakallu/Kupgal/Kadapa/Edakkal in South India portraying cave art and burial rituals from the Neolithic/Palaeolithic periods. This is where we all came from

The Pillars of Ashoka Devanampriya located in Vaishali, Lauriya NandanGarh, Lauriya Araraj, Prayagraj, Sarnath and Rampurva with his edicts. Glistening in classical Mauryan polish, these are the oldest examples of codified regulations in stone in India

The Gol Gumbaz, in Vijayapura (Bijapur), Karnataka. Built during the Bahmani Adil Shahi Sultanate, it is among the largest domes of the medieval world and a great example of Indo-Islamic Architecture #UNESCO
Lutyens Delhi. The Seat of India's power and glory. Laid down in early 20th century when the capital of British India moved from Calcutta to Delhi, this area is symbol of modern India.

Deogarh Dashavatara Temple in Lalitpur district , UP.

The Oldest Surviving Hindu Temple, in ornate Gupta style. Built in the early 6th century, this single celled temple has survived 14 centuries of India.

The Tawang Monastery in Arunachal Pradesh, the second largest monastery in the world. Built during the 17th century, this Mahayana Buddhist abode lies kissing the sun drenched North Eastern part of India

The Ancient Port City of Muziris in Kerala. The continuously inhabited harbour settlement, alternatively known as Kodungallur, or Cranganore is a testament to the huge maritime trade ancient India was a part of .

The Dilwara Jain Temples of Mount Abu, Rajasthan. These examples of architectural perfection with opulent carvings and ornamental decorations are truly out of the world.

The Iron Age Culture (700BC-200BC) settlements of Chandraketugarh and Bangarh in West Bengal. Archeological digs have revealed great evidence of maritime trade and terracotta art

The Group of Monuments at Mandu, Madhya Pradesh. Built during the early 15th century , these structures (Jahaz Mahal, Hindola Mahal, Roopmati's Pavillion etc) are a fine example of the syncretic Indo-Islamic architecture in Malwa.

The Parsi Fire Temple of Udwada, Gujarat. The site of the oldest fire temple in india, with the oldest continuously burning "ritual temple fire" in the world, dating back to the 8th century AD when the Paris fled Persia

The Forest Research Institute Building in Dehradun. A harmonious blend of Greco-Roman and Colonial architecture, this grand building complex is a tribute to both nature and human achievement as well.

Hazarduari Palace and the Killa Nizamat fort in Murshidabad, West Bengal. Built in the Italian palace style in 1829-37 by the Nawab of Bengal, Humayun Jah, it remains a stunning piece of forgotten architecture

I have listed 25 sites in India here, which aren't on the UNESCO heritage list or the tentative list. But certainly should be. India has a rich and diverse culture, and the world deserves to know it. Share the word ! RT please :)
