Since our first #COVID19AB case was discovered, we’ve learned a great deal. I’d like to share a few key findings. COVID-19 does not discriminate by age, the average patient is 41.5 years & we’ve seen cases in every age group. (1/5)
The most frequent symptoms are cough at 62%, sore throat at 33% and fever at 28%. 7.6% showed no symptoms, these were found at outbreak settings where the exposure risk is higher than in the general population. (2/5)
The 3 most common factors in cases of severe outcomes, are older age, obesity & immunodeficiency. Those over 65 years are almost 5 times more likely to need hospital care or to die than those under 65. This increases the older a person is. (3/5)
Those 30-64 are more likely to have severe outcomes if they have: cancer, diabetes, hypertension, respiratory disease, immune deficiency, obesity or a history of smoking. Among this group 2/3 of hospitalized & almost 3/4 of deceased cases had at least 1 of these conditions.(4/5)
We cannot change age, but there are conditions we can address. Eating healthy, exercising regularly, and quitting or reducing smoking are things we can control that may help reduce our risk of experiencing the more severe aspects of this virus. (5/5)
