Counter THREAD: Madhubala, Attaullah Khan, Dilip Kumar and That Famous Court Case.
At time a well narrated emotional story tries to whitewash the FACTS. This thread was all about that. Let me counter this with some facts and less views (of mine)👇
Who was Madhubala?
Born to Atauallah Khan (AK) and Mumtaz Begum in a family of Pathan. She was born in abject poverty <Living in a slum>, the 5th of 11 children. He,left his job at Imperial Tobacco over some tiff & was taking her to auditions at various studios.
One day he got succeeded in getting her 8-year-old, daughter Mumtaz Khan, with an audition with Devika Rani <She gave her a new name, Madhubala and part in the 1942 film Basant>. She was paid Rs. 50 & then 50 more as AK said he has to accompany her and hence can not do a job.
"Apa first fell in love with Premnath"
She was in love with Premnath and Dilip Sahab (DS) was helping his friend. Given both of them were Pathan. So, Attaullah used to let him pick up Madhubala in his car and drive off for an evening out. Premnath would later emerged.
In a scene of a one-minute speech in Sangdil, DS, acting opposite Madubala, loved to give 16 retakes. Wearing a beard and a turban and dressed as an astrologer, DS faltered in a tender romantic scene in which he sought the love of the beautiful Madhubala.
Amar (1954) Following DS down the steps of her home Madhubala sang "Jaaney wale se mulaqaat na honey payee". She surprised everyone by crying throughout the picturisation of the song. Mehboob Khan first frowned but later loved the shot.
In between the relationship between AK and DS turned to enmity. AK wanted to cast DS in a movie and DS didn't liked the story and said NO. DS also hinted that he will NOT let her work in Films post marriage.

Enter K. Asif and Mughal-e-Azam
DS persuaded Asif that Madhubala must play Anarkali. AK came back with his set of rules:
1. No night shooting
2. No visitors allowed on the sets
3. Full script with dialogue, AND
4. Pay more than what DS is getting
DS ask him to say yes for all.
In the long period of 10 years that K. Asif took to complete his movie, DS-Madhubala’s love story had also run into a tragic course. AK wanted her to avoid DS but she was in love.
<Naya Daur>
This story of Akhtar Mirza was rejected by many calling it as a "documentary".
But, the journalist in B. R. Chopra loved it & decided to make a movie. Location was at a small village called Budhani (Hoshangabad) <70 km from Bhopal>. Since the story was to be SET in a village not on a film Studio. AK didn't liked this, since he thought DS was the reason.
AK insisted that it should be shoot in Bombay, BRC said NO and decided to replace her with Vyjayanthimala. In the Trade Mag. BRC gave a full ad of the movie with Madhubala's name been crossed. AK was crying out BRC had sacked Madhubala on flimsy grounds.
BRC took these attack personally and decided to file a case asking for his signing-fee back. Police outside the Girgaum Maigstrate's Court had a tough time handling the crowds.
At courtroom of Magistrate R.S.Parekh, the unsavoury details of DS-Madhubala romance were laid bare.
Dilip Kumar declared in open court, "I love this woman and shall love her till my dying day."
But as a professional he decided to stand against her and AK.
