A true prophet is never late with the message of God. The nature of a prophet is to *see* with insight *ahead* of time and to give the message generally when it’s inconvenient and regarded as impossible because others have not seen its truth yet.

/1
The reason the conservative American pulpit is so seldom prophetic is b/c it sees nothing ahead of itself, recognizes no consequences beforehand, and when it does or is told it should, it waits until everyone else sees it too so it doesn’t have to face prophet’s consequences.

/2
What passes for “prophetic” in American conservative pulpits is little more than rehashing of the already known, in a way that looks back to the already been, with little foresight into what is to come or should be. It conserves when it should predict.

/3
That tendency to conserve when it should risk to predict is the source of its irrelevance. That it has an ancient Book with a timeless message is not its problem. That it reads that Book *backwards* without being sons of Issachar is its problem.

/4
You cannot be a prophet if you’re always trying to show up with a message already believed, already proven, and never disrupting. The phrase we have for that is “yes man.” Too many church pulpits are effectively “yes men” for the cultural and social status quo.

/5
Meanwhile, a lost world yawns and answers, “We already knew that. Where y’all been?”

And God asks, “Why were you not on the wall warning when I *first* gave you the message?”

Prophets see *beforehand* and warn when it’s costly, inconvenient, dangerous and unbelievable.
