That Nigeria is hard is an understatement. I've seen hitherto very wealthy persons about a decade ago, struggling to survive today. Folks who lived upper middle class life, barely managing to exist. They're no safety nests, no consistency in policies to enable planning, NOTHING!
I've a friend who lost N220 million a couple of years back, to a distressed mortgage bank. He battled suicidal thoughts. Another friend lost heavily in the stock market crash of 2012, & left for Canada with his family. He said, if he remained there, he said, he would've died.
Is this the reason why people that find themselves in public office over-steal? Can they be hedging the risks of uncertainties in the future? The business environment is so volatile that one can lose his life's savings in one day of encounter with numerous scammers on the prowl.
Nothing is assured there. Not government protection, not rule of law, not culture of business courtesy, decency & integrity. Nothing whatsoever!!!
