Trump is the apotheosis of America's unwillingness to do difficult things today. Democracy is hard, too. Fighting for it internationally as well. Easier to say it's hard until it's impossible. Then say you did all you could.
JFK's famous "we choose to go to the moon" speech in 1962 relied on Americans to embrace challenges: "..not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills."
Trump is the peak of the opposite: saying difficult problems can be solved easily, with no sacrifice. When nothing is solved, he simply says it was, or will be soon, by him. Covid-19 pops that balloon, it's too big to distract from.
