If you've just been a victim of rape, take heart. It has happened. You can't undo it. But there are certain things you can do.

You should report to a tertiary health institution (teaching hospital) immediately. Here, you can access the following services:

1. Post-exposure prophylaxis to prevent HIV. (You don't know the HIV status of the rapist)

2. Emergency contraceptive to prevent pregnancy. (You don't deserve to give birth to a child of a rapist in Jesus Name)

3. Hepatitis B vaccination

4. Prophylactic antibiotics to prevent Gonorrhoea, Syphilis, Chlamydia infection, etc.

4. Doctor's report (as evidence for future purposes.)

5. There are now services in some centres in Nigeria where remains of the rapist e.g semen, pubic hair, skin cells can be looked for on

your body and picked and DNA profiling done. The DNA pattern can be remotely saved so that if you decide to take the rapist to court 50 years
later, there is a solid evidence. His DNA will be compared with the saved one.

Ask any doctor for this service and you will be directed

to where you can get it. Finally, make a Police report. Even if you know the person but you don't want the matter to be taken up immediately probably because the person is way higher on the social ladder than you are and you are afraid for your life or probably you don't have any

money to pursue a court case now, you can tell the police that you want to report it only for filing for future purposes. There is a place for that. God WILL definitely elevate you to a position to take it up someday and you will have solid evidence.

If you have bruises & bleeding,take pictures and save it with the police.

Take note that you can do all these without even one friend knowing about it.Therefore there is no place for,"What will people say?"
