A reply from the Najavo Nation on Irish donations to their COVID19 fund
I wrote about the famine donation and the Kindred Spirits monument here medium.com/@gavinsblog/th…
I also put an Attribution-ShareAlike licence on this pic I took and put it on Wikipedia. It turned out nice!
Lots of Irish names donating...
Some reporting on it here: irishtimes.com/news/health/co…
"We noticed that we were getting a lot of donations from Ireland so we were wondering why . . . sorry I get emotional talking about this part,” Ms Begay broke off. “And I learned about what the Choctaw did for the Irish people, and it was so beautiful.”
Donations just went over $2m
The @nytimes has done a story, noting that $500,000 has been donated by Irish people to the Navajo in 48 hours. nytimes.com/2020/05/05/wor…
Only $1m to go folks. The Hopi and Navajo people need some help. Tweet, retweet + donate.

I would imagine it might be a good opportunity for @dfatirl @simoncoveney and the Irish State to match donations by Irish people to the Najavo and Hopi people. And perhaps in the future open scholarships akin to the Choctaw scholarships.
(For those who are new to this story, we created the Choctaw-Ireland Scholarship programme for Choctaw people to study in Ireland (such as in Cork, as detailed here: ucc.ie/en/scholarship…)
Full tuition is paid, along with €10,000 in living expenses.
Incidentally I took a few videos at the opening of the Kindred Spirits memorial in June 2017. Members of the Choctaw Nation travelled to Cork for it. Here's the Dawning of the Day
And Choctaw people learning Irish dancing, in Cork.
And here, watching some Choctaw dancing
Now $800,000 to go. Completely doable folks.
