3801 – 1940s in Grey Nurse Livery, near Clyde

The first 5 C38s were delivered in wartime grey. After the war the C38s were painted green. All except 3813 were repainted black in the 1950s. 3801 and 3830 had their green livery restored in the 1960s.

NSW Government railways were all 4' 8.5" (standard gauge).
Steam engine classification from 1924 was based on letters indicating driving axles.
