It will make these excesses of unsustainable "renewable industries" (like the excessive sugar cane production) impossible. Because, that is a point "planet of the humans" got right: There have been such excesses.
The excesses come from the notion, that "we need" as much renewable energy (or even more) as we had fossil energy in the past - and this really fast. That would leave us with no option than the excessive path.
If we engage in efficiency measures in addition, the demand will be only half as high (in 30 yrs), even with growth of the energy services. And that will allow for the sustainable renewable solutions.
The "degrowthers" would say, that the same could be done using reduction of growth rate (to negative). But that is not true: To half energy services would mean the breakdown of basic supply chains like nutrition and would destroy civilization as well.
So, energy efficiency is really the key to a choice for a sustainable energy path including sustainable renewable energy supply.
