Amazon has fired at least 4 workers who raised concerns about COVID-19 safety in Amazon warehouses. This looks like a clear case of whistleblower retaliation. My Senate colleagues & I want @Amazon to show us their policies that workers allegedly violated. nytimes.com/2020/05/07/tec…
Some @Amazon warehouses closed for deep cleaning after employees tested positive for COVID-19, but that’s not good enough. According to United @ForRespect’s tracker, more than 100 warehouses have reportedly had positive cases. At least 3 workers have died. areyousafe.work/amazon
Our federal whistleblower laws to protect workers concerned about workplace COVID-19 exposure need to be a lot stronger. That’s why @RepRoKhanna & I included whistleblower protections in our Essential Workers Bill of Rights that Congress should include in its next relief bill.

The federal government has the power to investigate police departments with a history of discriminatory policing. But racist former AG Jeff Sessions took away @TheJusticeDept’s tools to force those police departments to reform. We can change that.
I’m introducing a bill to:
❌ Reverse the Trump admin’s limits on the use of consent decrees – and then expand them
❌ Empower state AGs to pursue their own investigations into discriminatory policing
❌ Triple DOJ's @CivilRights funding to allow it to pursue these cases
There is no easy fix for the systemic racism in our policing and justice systems. But if the Trump administration won’t do everything in its power to hold police departments accountable when officers use excessive force and kill Black Americans, then Congress should make them.

Last night’s attacks on peaceful protesters near the White House demanding justice for George Floyd were appalling. Trump acted more like a wannabe authoritarian than Commander in Chief. Here’s some of the things I’ve been working on today to hold this administration accountable:
Secretary @EsperDoD and CJCS Milley need to testify before the Senate immediately. The American people deserve to understand what role the @DeptofDefense played in the Lafayette Square attacks on protesters just so Trump could have a photo-op.
I’ve asked the @DoD_IG to conduct an immediate investigation into the role of @DeptofDefense civilian and military officials at protests in Washington DC and other cities throughout the country.

COVID-19 is clearly a grave danger to workers’ health. So it’s mind-boggling that @OSHA_DOL’s inspections & citations plummeted in the crisis. I’ve requested @DOLOIG investigate whether OSHA failed to meet its legal requirement to protect workplace safety. huffpost.com/entry/senate-d…
@USDOL should have issued an OSHA Emergency Temporary Standard for COVID-19 months ago – enforceable workplace safety rules for the pandemic. It refused. Workers are dying from COVID-19 & @OSHA_DOL claims emergency safety standards to protect workers wouldn’t help. Unbelievable.
I’m going to keep fighting for my Essential Workers Bill of Rights, & @SenatorBaldwin & @SenDuckworth’s bill to make @OSHA_DOL issue an ETS for COVID-19. But @USDOL already has power right now to help protect American workers. @DOLOIG should explain why they’re failing to use it.
