Last night’s attacks on peaceful protesters near the White House demanding justice for George Floyd were appalling. Trump acted more like a wannabe authoritarian than Commander in Chief. Here’s some of the things I’ve been working on today to hold this administration accountable:
Secretary @EsperDoD and CJCS Milley need to testify before the Senate immediately. The American people deserve to understand what role the @DeptofDefense played in the Lafayette Square attacks on protesters just so Trump could have a photo-op.
I’ve asked the @DoD_IG to conduct an immediate investigation into the role of @DeptofDefense civilian and military officials at protests in Washington DC and other cities throughout the country. 
AG William Barr reportedly ordered law enforcement to clear Lafayette Square for Trump’s photo-op himself. He should resign. And @JusticeOIG should investigate the role that AG Barr & @TheJusticeDept personnel played in this ugly propaganda event.
No @DeptofDefense officer or employee should ever violate Americans’ civil rights or profile on the basis of race, ethnicity, or religion. I’m introducing an NDAA amendment to create an Office for Civil Rights at the Pentagon to hold DoD accountable.
And we cannot allow Donald Trump to abuse the Insurrection Act and deploy the military across the country. I’m supporting @TimKaine’s NDAA amendment to bar the use of military force against Americans.
Black Americans are dying at the hands of police & Trump’s response is to attack his fellow citizens & put more lives at risk. I’ll keep fighting every way I can to hold Trump accountable & to fight the systemic racism & corruption in our justice system & this administration.
