Does living under house confinement constitute acceding to authoritarianism, or is it merely the Sovereign protecting us from ourselves, from relapsing to a Hobbesian "state of nature"?
You can justify the lockdown as a "contract" in which the individual surrenders his freedom in exchange for safety from the virus. But if the Sovereign does not provide the promised safety then the Hobbes theory allows for the right to rebel and the deal is off.
It's reasonable to argue that a lockdown with no clear benefit or a very minimal one is an onerous arrangement because one side gives up a lot in exchange for chump change, in a manner of speaking.
