Paul and Fauci are right in different ways. Fauci is not the only voice because medical risk is not the only risk. But Fauci is definitely a voice representing his institutional POV. What we really want to know is whether we've balanced the risks correctly. Nobody's sure.
It's hard to accept that in this crisis that the element of risk is unavoidable. Disaster may lie at the end of each choice, possibly both. We can only try to make the best decision.
It was said of Admiral Jellicoe that he was the only man who could lose the Great War in an afternoon. Unfortunately our current set of leaders can similarly throw away America in a single decision. Now if only they could forget politics, or talk shows or gotchas...
Let us at least err in earnest, not perish covering our asses.
