THREAD: So how is predictive marking expected to work? 👇🏻
Firstly the student's teacher is asked to estimate the percentage (not just the grade, but the exact %) each pupil would have scored in the LC exam.

NOTE: This now includes orals and practicals - the original plan for 100% marks will NOT go ahead as first announced.
The teacher will also be asked to produce a 'class rank order' where, alongside the % they expect each pupil to get, the entire class is ranked in order of expected achievement.
A teacher's grade should incorporate records of a student's performance (e.g. homework, classwork), house exams, mocks (with caveats), any appropriate coursework, and how the current class overall compares with those of previous years. There will be *no* additional assessment.
Teachers are asked to bear in mind how preparation would usually become more intensive in the run-up to the formal exams, as well as any bonus that a pupil would have been given if sitting exams through Irish, or on assumption of having a scribe.
If a student is new to a class, the teacher is expected to consult with the previous teacher and get whatever records the have; if new to a school, teachers may ask school management to contact the pupil's previous school to get additional information.
Once a teacher has reached an expected grade for each pupil, there will be an alignment process with the other teachers/classes in each school to ensure a standard process across each class.

If there's no other teachers, the Deputy Principal will run oversight.
This data is then sent to the School Principal who reviews the process, assures themselves of the fairness of the process, returns any queries to the class teacher, and then forwards the information to the Department of Education (intended to be by end of May).
School-sourced data will then be combined with historical data available to the SEC (national level, school level, candidate level, and a 2020 LC candidate's previous Junior Cert grades). This will be analysed to produce each school's expected distributions of actual grades.
Provisional results will be issued in early September and transmitted to the CAO.
Students who are not happy with their predictive grade can appeal, and if unhappy with their appeal, can choose to sit the traditional exam (in whatever subjects appropriate) at the later safe date
