There will still be physical locations to vote, Padilla said. But concerns remain that workers at voting centers fall into vulnerable populations, i.e. older people.

"It's really important that we work together as business leaders and as a broader community," Newsom said.
Training for the "army" of tracers includes cultural competency and data-protection, Newsom said.

Newsom wishes a happy Mother's Day to all California moms, but especially the essential workers.
The governor also discourages going to the chain stores that can start to reopen. He said instead, go an extra block or two and find the small businesses that weren't advantaged by the big names.
"We will have to pull from our reserves," Newsom said, of dire budget projections.

He said he is working with the Legislature on the budget technicalities
4.3 million people have applied for unemployment insurance since March 12. Of the "jaw-dropping" unemployment numbers, Newsom said they're lagging and therefore probably higher than current projections.

"We're north of 20 percent right now," Newsom said.
Softening the blow, Newsom said, is dependent on federal assistance. Both the governor and members of the Legislature have repeated this request for weeks now.
Newsom said his administration is working with stakeholders/legislative leaders in the nursing home liability space. More information on that later this afternoon, he said.
