To clarify - they have NOT transferred the Maternity Hospital site to the state.
It is being transferred to a new charity called St Vincent’s Holdings CLG. Who/what is CLG? Some info here 👇
Under the old deal, SVHG (and the Sisters) would've owned the National Maternity Hospital.
Now, the Sisters will give up ownership of SVHG (and the hospital site) to this new charity, Holdings CLG
When it does get set up, it will have a "transition board" for a max of 1 year.
The board members will also be the shareholders (and will technically own the Maternity Hospital site)
James Menton, the chair of SVHG.
Sharen McCabe, a SVHG director and the chair of the McCabe's pharmacy chain.
John Compton, the former head of Northern Ireland's Health and Social Care Board.
SVHG has said the new appointments will be based on merit and the person's background in health.
This is fairly dense, so hope that makes sense to people.
It said today that it removes "any remaining concerns" that there could be a religious influence at the new Maternity Hospital.
