The reasoning in these briefs matches what I argued in a couple of tweets the other day
The upshot? There is no dispute. The Supreme Court has no procedural off-ramp from resolving the cases involving access to the president's taxes and financial records.
It's remarkable that SCOTUS even asked the parties to brief this question. One wonders which justices were interested in the matter, and whether it will come up in the oral argument on Tuesday. END
In the closing minutes of our webinar yesterday, @AHoweBlogger and I discussed the request for more briefing on the political question doctrine and suggested it would be a bust. That appears to have been the right call.
